Life - Live It Save It

LIFE…Live it Save it is a new community education program developed by the Ambulance Service of NSW (Ambulance) for over 55 retirees and is now available.

Ambulance has developed LIFE…Live it Save it to educate the community of New South Wales to recognise and deal effectively with medical emergencies.

Three out of every four cardiac arrests occur in or near the family home.  Recent studies conducted by Ambulance revealed that the lack of knowledge observed in the public regarding out of hospital cardiac arrests contributed to poor survival rates in Australia. We have little control over the time between the onset of symptoms to when the community calls ‘000’.  Education is the key to increasing the community’s ability to recognise medical emergencies and reduce the complacency toward taking appropriate action.  Minutes can mean the difference between life and death.

LIFE…Live it Save it is free to all community clubs in New South Wales who cater to retirees. It takes only one hour to complete and there are no exams or tests. The self-learning Program is designed to be facilitated by community members in a group environment and includes viewing an instructional DVD highlighting the Program’s key objectives which are:

  1. Early recognition of signs and symptoms
  2. Calling ‘000’ immediately for an ambulance
  3. Following Ambulance Calltaker instructions

Also included in the Program is a short practical component and discussion time.  All participants will receive merchandise that highlights important Ambulance messages.  No prior training is required to facilitate the Program.

If you are interested in facilitating a Program within your area or just want to know more about the LIFE .. Life It Save It program please download the Program outline [PDF, 72kb] or contact the Manager, Community Relations by phoning 02 9320 7795 or email community@ambulance.nsw.gov.au.
