Major and Sporting Events
The Ambulance Service of New South Wales provides high quality clinical care and health related transport services including emergency, non-emergency, aeromedical, rescue and retrieval services to more than 6.7 million people in NSW. We are available to provide a service at major and sporting events subject to the availability of personnel and vehicles and the recovery of associated costs.
Do you need ambulance services at your event?
Organisers of major and sporting events can seek Ambulance assistance for advice on the necessity for ambulance attendance at an event by giving consideration to the following:
- The type of event being arranged
- The location of the event in terms of proximity to medical facilities
- The number of people expected to attend
- The type of building or area where the event is to be held
- The activities being conducted at the event
- The expected weather conditions for the duration of the event
- The number of Ambulance personnel required to attend a major and /or sporting event will vary depending on the size of an event. The number of personnel required at an event is at the discretion of the organising committee, however there is no doubt that the incidences of injury at events that attract large crowds are much higher.

* The minimum number of paramedics required to attend any event is two.
** Vehicles costs are calculated on the basis of the return journey
from the closest ambulance station to the event and includes kilometres
travelled during the course of the event.
Notes:
A cancellation fee of four hours per paramedic at the hourly rate
will apply if the event is cancelled with less than 48 hours
notice, unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Extensions beyond the agreed time will attract an additional charge
at the same rate based on 30 minute increments.
The charges cover
first aid treatment at the event . The charges do not cover any
patient that requires transport from the event. Should
this occur the individual patient will be charged for the transport
separately.
Generally, in the event that a patient transport is required
from the event another ambulance resource will be called. However,
in an emergency
situation the ambulance at the event will transport the patient
and another ambulance will be sent to cover the event. A reduction
of fess will be made
for the period of no coverage.
The Ambulance Service of NSW reserves the right to terminate and/or withdraw from an attendance at any time. If a major incident occurs that exhausts resources the Ambulance Service may withdraw attendance at an event without notice until other resources become available. Should this occur an appropriate reduction in charges will apply.

Ambulance may consider awarding concessions to sporting and event
organisers on an individual basis. Sporting and event organisers
