Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process of assessing and recognising the qualifications and experience an applicant would bring to Ambulance eg former or current Paramedic, Emergency Medical Technician, Registered Nurse or those with relevant science tertiary qualifications.
Qualifications, scope of practice and relevant experience are reviewed and mapped against those required by Ambulance and a determination made on level of entry and any training required. If you are currently employed in the Ambulance industry you could be employed at a similar level.
Ambulance is a Registered Training Organisation and every RPL application is assessed on an individual basis. International recruits are provided with a comprehensive clinical mentoring program over 28 weeks which is learner focused, concentrating on training gaps which may have been identified in the RPL process.
As a general guide, a registered paramedic would be expected to undertake the following induction process after they have provided detailed evidence of prior learning:
- Induction (including geographical orientation)
- On road as a paramedic (to be rostered with IC Paramedics) including 3 on-road practicum reports
- Panel assessment about knowledge of ambulance practice
As a registered training organisation Ambulance can individually assess the qualifications, scope of practice and relevant experience of applicants against those required by Ambulance.
