The month-long national advertising campaign aims to build awareness of the Triple Zero (000) number and educate the community about when to use the number. Meningococcal
disease (20 August)
Meningococcal disease is caused by a bacterial infection and can lead to serious
illness. It is uncommon in NSW, and occurs more often in
winter and spring. Infants, small children, adolescents and
young adults are most at risk. Early treatment is vital.

Once again NSW Ambulance crews worked hand in hand with medical teams and St. John Ambulance in providing a comprehensive and high standard of medical care. Ambulance crews treated in excess of 70 patients on the day and effected some 35 transports ranging from heat exhaustion to sprained ankles. One patient suffered a cardiac arrest, but was reverted by his own implanted defibrillator and was transported to St. Vincents Hospital for ongoing care. (click here to read the full story)

Menindee Volunteer Ambulance Officer Georgina Staker recently hosted a Life… Live it, Save it project for some elderly residents in Menindee. The presentation is an excellent community project focused on the importance of recognising signs and symptoms in life threatening emergencies. On Sunday 3 June 2007, Sussex Inlet Ambulance Officers enjoyed being re-united with Mr Albert Hassan and presented him with a Zoll watch. At mid-afternoon on Thursday 28 December 2006, the crew from Sussex Inlet responded to a local address where Albert had suddenly collapsed and lost consciousness. Ambulance Officers’ Lee Brown and Les Gernyi from Sussex Inlet and Paramedic Colin Apps from Huskisson administrated a shock from a Zoll machine and following CPR Albert was bought back to consciousness. Do you know the number to call in an emergency? Police, firefighters and ambulance officers say it is surprising how many people do not know the number to dial in an emergency is triple zero – 000. Ask for fire, police or ambulance once the call is answered and give the operator as much information as you can, for example, the house number, street name, a cross street. The Audit Office of NSW has commended the Ambulance Service for improved response
times and faster patient handover times to hospitals, despite
a population explosion and an increase in demand for ambulance
services since 2002. Twenty eight recommendations from the
2001 audit report have been implemented, together with a
number of new initiatives that have improved overall performance.

At the official launch of the Mobile Education Unit on Tuesday 19 June 2007, Chief Executive Greg Rochford thanked the Volkswagen Group Australia for the generous loan of a VW Caddy to use as mobile education unit for children.
